So last night I was asked to supervise the drink preparation for the Daily Candy “Sweetie” awards at the Bowery Hotel. Bowery Hotel – very interesting place. Gothic interior, and doormen dressed in 1930’s era garb. I dug it. First off, the Bowery, the neighborhood, has COMPLETELY changed in the past year. Luxury highrises and boutique hotels have sprung up like spearmint, and my eyes were popping out of my head -seriously! I could not believe the development going on in that area. I’m a little torn as to whether I dig it or not. The hotel, yes I dig that. The Daily Candy event was an elbow to elbow luxury event sponsored by Moet Hennessy USA products: Chopin, Navan, Moet, and 10 Cane. Most attendees were women who looked like they belonged in the MTV reality tv show “The Hills.” I ran into Lynnette, superb brand ambassador to St. Germain elderflower liqueur. The cocktails at this event were superb. Here is one of them:
2 oz. Chopin Vodka
1 oz. Cucumber Water*
3/4 oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice
3/4 oz. Simple Syrup
Directions: Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass.
Garnish: 3 cucumber slices and a pinch of fresh mint
*to make the cucumber water, simply juice 1 cucumber and strain through cheesecloth.
